Fertility Baseline Scan

A detailed and accurate trans-abdominal TIA or transvaginal TN is designed to gather and evaluate a baseline assessment of the pelvic anatomy prior to family planning or for those undergoing fertility treatment. This scan can also look into
causes of painful or irregular periods or pelvic pain and includes an ultrasound examination of the uterus, ovaries, bladder and adjacent structures. (Kidneys are included in the TIA examination).
A baseline scan is often the first port of call for those considering egg donation and surrogacy, or those looking at freezing their eggs. It can rule out a low egg count or fibroids, or ovarian cysts.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR SCAN

  • We recommend you wear comfortable clothing that will allow easy access to the area on the day of your appointment. This will help you feel relaxed and at ease. 
  • Transabdominal: Drink a large glass of clear fluid around an hour before your pelvic scan.
  • Transvaginal: There is no need to have a full bladder for an internal scan; we may ask you to try and empty your bladder.

FAQ

How quickly will I receive my scan images and report?

Following your appointment your medical professional will assess your images and create a report with recommendations where necessary. This can take between 24 and 72 hours. You have the option to pay an additional fee and request a same-day report.

Do I need a medical referral to go ahead with a scan?

Absolutely not. We do welcome those who have been referred to us by their GP, equally we see many who are experiencing pain or concerns and are looking for faster results and care.

Will I be seen by a qualified sonographer?
